Well after two weeks spent in Cancun and Playa del Carmen "He's back!" Let's start out with a Bob Lovelace designed Gerber Guardian. The only thing I don't like about this knife is the funky belt clip...

The guy that did the stabilizing for me said he could sell those on eBay for $35-$40 per pair easily. He's in Arizona and he said it's too hot right now to work in his shop, but when the weather cools down in the fall I'm going to send him a bunch of spalted oak scales to stabilize. He's uses "Cactus Juice" in a vacuum chamber. Cactus Juice is a thermal setting resin, and when used in a vacuum chamber it penetrates the fibers all the way through, turning a piece of wood into basically wood micarta.
The Cactus Juice and a finish coat of epoxy varnish bring out the colors and contrasts better than anything else I've tried, and I've tried a lot of things. ![]()

At a knife show in Michigan around 2005 or so Roger "Mudbone" Jones walked up to my wife and I and said both of you give me a penny. OK we did and Roger handed both my wife and I a handmade knife, made from a file. He said its tradition that when someone gives you a knife you give them a penny.
Never for sale, here's mine: ![]()

Mike Stewart and his crew at Bark River Knife and Tool in Escanaba, MI make some very nice knives. My ex-wife does excellent scrimshaw; here's a combination of both!
