The ammo which has been banned is the steel core round. This is due to somebody who developed a 5.45 mm handgun. "Armor piercing" rounds are illegal for handguns, and steel core ammo is considered armor piercing. Can't blame BATF for this one. Non-steel core rounds are still legal and can be imported.
